Corporate Friends

Whilst we are very fortunate & thankful that we do enjoy the support of many local Businesses we hope to encourage the support of others through this initiative.

By joining us as a Corporate Friend you will be helping us enormously by providing a more certain base enabling our volunteers to focus more time & effort on the events themselves rather than for example on seeking donations (although of course donations will still be most welcome).

All that we are hoping for is a small annual donation of €50 (if you would like to donate more that would be greatly appreciated & amazing thankyou) which will be used on events for example to allow us to simply buy raffle prizes.

In return for kind donations & to recognise our Friends support:

  • There will be a dedicated ‘Corporate Friends’ page on our website
  • Our popular & much read Facebook page will be used to give further recognition & thanks
  • Prizes purchased will be given in Friends names
  • We will give a ‘Thankyou’ Certificate for display

Flood victims El Saladar Almoradi

Today we met up with Sammy, a remarkable lady who has been not only trying to get her own home sorted following the floods but has been supporting the whole community in El Saladar, Almoradi. Together with help from Kiera and other friends they have been organising for homes to be made secure, replacing items that have been ruined where possible and ensuring that people are safe.

Humbling to say the least. We were invited into the homes of many people today and saw first hand the devastation that hit the village 9 weeks ago. Walking around in the sunshine you would have no idea of what is hidden behind the doors of these houses - people have pulled together and they are doing the best they can with very little. Today there were tears of sadness for what has gone but hope in the eyes of many that life would get better. We are going to do everything we can to ensure this happens...........

Lists of items needed are being prepared. Sammy has a list of priorities for the villagers - doors that need to be replaced that no longer close, windows that have rotted and no longer hold the glass, beds that are damp and need throwing out immediately and so much more.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters and fund raising events, HELP Vega Baja has the funds to make a difference to these families. However, we really need to ask for more support from you. We are arranging for storage facilities to be available soon so if you have any good quality items of furniture, kitchen units etc, please call our San Miguel Centre and ask for Sue Birchenough who is co-ordinating the delivery and collection of items for the families with Kira (aka Clara). We will also be looking for volunteer drivers to collect and deliver the items - we have a van although it is not that big. Can you help?

I know it seems that we are always asking for support and its true we do but never before have so many people been in such a difficult situation. The community is doing everything it can to support each other - lets give them a helping hand.

FLOOD VICTIM ADDITIONAL SUPPORT

For many, the recent Gota Fria floods are becoming a distant memory as life returns to normal. For others, the devastation that they experienced will continue for many months to come. HELP Vega Baja (registered charity) have been working with various businesses to raise funds for those people affected and to date, 26,541 euros has been raised. The Elective Committee of the charity have today (Monday) agreed to increase this by a further 30,000 euros.

President, Michele Masson, stated “the support from people in the community, both individuals and businesses, has been phenomenal. Our volunteers are now in the process of working with local people in the affected areas and town halls to identify where the greatest needs are. We have started visiting homes ourselves to see where our support is most needed. Many homes need a great deal of repair and we therefore envisage that this work will be ongoing for several months. It is important to us that we do what we can to ensure that people are safe and living in homes that are habitable, but we can of course only do this if we are aware where these homes and families are”.
