HELP is a registered charity and appears on the register of charities held by the Valencian government. We help people of all ages with all sorts of problems within the Vega Baja area from La Marina to Pilar de la Horadada.

We have a centre at San Miguel de Salinas which includes a charity shop and a hire centre for mobility equipment. We also have a helpdesk in La Marina. Each of these supply a wide range of information and advice to members and nonmembers alike. Typical enquiries include questions on residence, health care, driving, bereavement, wills, burglaries and much more. If the answer to a problem is not known immediately, every effort is made to obtain the appropriate information.

Our charity is very fortunate in having the support of a hospital visiting team who visit the Vega Baja Hospital, near Orihuela three times a week. We are also able to send in a member of our team to Torrevieja hospital in Los Balcones upon request from the patient, relative or carer and in the very near future we will be able to offer a hospital visiting service at the Quironsalud Hospital in the International ward.

We also have a welfare officer who is able to offer advice and assistance. All requests for any of these services should be made via our San Miguel centre.

We operate a hire service of orthopaedic equipment at low cost to the public and reduced fees for our members. Our vast stock of equipment includes wheelchairs, walking frames, toilet seat raisers, bath seats and crutches. This service is available to both residents and visitors alike.

Events are held throughout the year to raise funds and we are able to support those in need. This includes charities and those unfortunate enough to find themselves facing financial difficulties. This would not be possible without the tremendous amount of work that is put in by our team of volunteers. All our volunteers work extremely hard throughout the year for our charity, often in the background and we are very grateful for their continued support. If you perhaps have a few hours a week to spare and are interested in finding out about becoming a volunteer with us, please get in touch. We would love to hear from you. There are a wide range of opportunities from office administration to hospital visiting and much more in between!

We are self-funding and obtain all of our income from membership fees, orthopaedic equipment rental, donations and fund raising activities, if you belong to a group or club that raises money for charity, please consider helping us. We always welcome any goods that can be sold or used as raffle prizes.

If you are a member of a local club or group and you think they would be interested in having someone from HELP come along to give a talk, please contact our San Miguel centre to make arrangements.

Our Facebook page (HELP Vega Baja) is proving very popular – please “like” our page and you will receive regular updates of events and activities at HELP plus information that may be of interest to you.

It is important for us to have your up to date contact information, please ensure that if you change your address, telephone number or email that you notify us in order that we can amend our records.

Thank you for your interest in  HELP Vega Baja and we would like to thank you for the support you have shown to our charity.

The plight of the lonely and isolated within the community is something that has been high on the agenda for the local CARE group for many months. HELP Vega Baja decided that they would take a step toward supporting those who are lonely or who, for whatever reason, feel they would benefit from someone to talk to.

From the 1st July this year, the charity extended their existing 24-hour non-medical emergency helpline to incorporate a new “Connections Team”. This team is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to not only provide advice and information on all the usual requests that come through regularly on the helpline, but who are also trained to offer guidance and support to anyone who wants to talk with them.

Michele Masson, President of HELP Vega Baja said “through our talks to groups etc. around the area and discussions with other organisations, we are very aware of the plight of people in the community who are experiencing difficult times and who may benefit from having someone to talk with. This new service  enables people to pick up the phone at any time of the day or night and chat with a caring, compassionate and trained volunteer who will listen to their concerns, offer guidance where it is appropriate or simply be at the other end of the phone when that person needs to talk.

People often feel like they are the only ones struggling but nothing could be further from the truth. Many people around us struggle with life, loneliness, grief and other issues and talking to someone who is non-judgmental can make the world of difference to their lives. We know we can rely upon our supporters to spread the word about this service. It is our aim to help people whenever we can and wherever it is needed, whether this is working alone or alongside other charities. The new service is the beginning of a new chapter for the charity and we are very excited about the future”

The Connections Team service is in addition to the charity’s existing services which they offer through their centre in San Miguel, La Marina Helpdesk and all other areas within the community where HELP Vega Baja is represented.
